Benbo Books chapter 1 & 2 are in !!

This teusday the test prints arrived, after these got checked for any flaws and errors the updated books went to the printers! Well, this afternoon on a friday the postman came by and had a package for me.

The first run of the chapter 1 and 2 of Roland Moonen's Sgt. Benbo series!
Just numbered the first run, (yes, Roland numbers his first prints of his series all of the by hand personally)

Just in time for Moon-Toons's first Comic convention in Belgium,
we hope that these books and ofcourse Follow the Norm#1 will go like hotcakes!!

A few cons coming up

In the Month October Moon-Toons is quite busy.

at the moment we have 1 sure thing coming up at the begining of october at the "Kunst & Kadootjes beurs" in Drunen.

Next to that, we are working on to get ourselves in the "Stripfestival Breda" on the 26 & 27 October.


Plus we got asked to come join the fun in Belgium at the "Stripbeurs hamme"
on 19 & 20 October.


The last two cons, are still a work in progress. still need to iron out the kincks if you will.

To celebrate this occasion, we thought to make a Birthday special and through this special, give Ben a present.. What that present is and will be, is going to be a surprise until the birthday special go's online..

"Striptekenaars Gezocht Voor Nieuw Stripblad"

Ik wil het liever niet doen, maar ik ontkom er niet aan,

Dit keer ook in het Nederlands.. Waarom?
omdat niet alleen Amerikanen de profiteur willen uithangen, 
ons kikkerlandje is er net zo goed schuldig aan!
Als fan van MR. Stephen Silver volgt Moon-Toons zijn stappen,
niet alleen dat we zijn werk subliem vinden, maar zijn boodschappen zijn correct.

 Na zijn kruistocht voor de moedeloze artiesten, voel ik mij net zo goed aangesproken. Als bedrijven, instanties en mensen die een artiest nodig hebben voor een project waar mee ze bezig zijn... Maar ze willen er absoluut NIET VOOR BETALEN!

Na een profiel aan gemaakt te hebben op een NL stripforum en zodoende wat rond gekeken te hebben, stuite ik op een post van iemand (ik zal zijn naam achterwegen laten, ga hem niet promoten natuurlijk)
met de volgende tekst er in:

Beste artiesten,
De beste wensen voor 2013!
Een nieuw jaar met goede voornemens.
Mijn voornemen is om een nieuw digitaal stripblad op te zetten in full-color. De eerste aanzet is bij deze gedaan. Uiteraard zoek ik nog (hobby) striptekenaars die op non-profit (onbetaald) basis hieraan mee willen werken. Lijkt het je wel leuk om sowieso aan het blad mee te werken en je werk te laten publiceren en te verspreiden kijk dan op mijn site (onder constructie).

Dit geheel wordt vanuit niet-commercieel oogpunt gedaan, en er zijn dus geen vergoedingen.

Zoals je dan mogelijk kan begrijpen Worden we van dit soort lui best moedeloos, als je dit soort oproepen tegen komt, van een iemand, die mensen dan vraagt hun tijd en geld ergens in te steken, maar er niets voor terug krijgt.. Ze vragen ook wel om 'hobbyisten' juist dat ze hun 'no pay' beleidt extra kunnen door voeren.

Dit soort praktijken zorgen er voor dat mensen blijven denken dat het illustratieve VAK totaal niet serieus word genomen.. En zodoende ook wij als professionals het zwaarder te verduren krijgen bij nieuwe klanten.
Ik vind het mooi dat stephen amerika voor zijn rekening neemt wat betreft het volk wakker maken, zodat ze hun werk NIET GRATIS WEG GEVEN in ruil voor mooie verhalen van grote bergen met geld, door de publiciteit die ze er voor terug krijgen, ik begreep het heel goed wat hij probeerde te doen, en snapte het. maar nu ik dit hier letterlijk ook op een NL stripforum tegen kom,

voelde ik me toch heel erg geneigt om die zelfde verantwoording te dragen zoals MR Silver, maar dan voor Nederlandse artiesten.


Dus alsjeblieft, jongelui met grote dromen als striptekenaar,
geloof de mensen niet die je mooie beloftes doen van publiciteit inruil van jou werk, het enige wat ze doen is jou ideeen jatten, jou lijnwerk gebruiken, en NIEMAND die je naam er voor in de plaats zal onthouden!

als je hoogwaardig werk levert,
en je hart en ziel in je werk stopt, dan mag je daar wat voor vragen..

Als die mensen zonodig GRATIS werk willen, 
waarom maken ze het zelf niet, als dat alles zo gemakkelijk is?

Oh wacht, zo makkelijk is het toch niet?!
je stijl, je ideeen, je figuren zijn wel degelijk iets waard, en dat weten die profiteurs, laat ze dus niet van jou profiteren!

our first interview on Follow The Norm #1 of the previous week, is in today's newspaper, two of them to be exact -the "de maasroute' and 'De heusdense courant"

So, very happy with that..
The only thing i don't like as much, is that their calling it a 'manga' trilogy
and it's not a manga.. other than that it's a great interview

on to tonight,the official opening for invited busines relations at 'theater De Leest' trying to give my book a bit more attention..

The road to the EXPO [ Theater De Leest ]

We'll after the books is finished

the road to the first exposition for Follow The Norm is the easy fun part..

Step #1:

Duplicate your original pages in their original A3 format:

Check..



Step #2:
Get yourself some MDF and cut it up to the right size:
Check..

Step #3:

Paint the sides.. Rightah circle, leftah circle, Up, Down..
Check..

Step #4
Deliver the first glue coating, and let it all soak in.
Check..

Step#5

After it is soaked in and dried up, place the seacond coating and place the pages on to the surface, and let it dry up so the lumps are gone:


Step#6
Hang up the pages with the system you like to use.

First expo for Follow The Norm will be on 30-05-2013 at Theater De Leest..

Benbo update(s)

With Chapter 1 online,
and the second chapter going live next month on 5 May.

i had the idea to pitch a new benbo story to magazines that are 'Benbo minded' (as in Weapon / Gun magazines)

as of yet i contacted 1 magazine, and they where keen on the idea,
telling me they had that same proposition before, but those guys wanted to do a continuous story line not knowing it was a magazine that comes out once every two months.

originally i wanted to do a story that had a beginning and an end for a magazine,specially for a magazine that comes once every blue moon.

now i'm done with 2 of the "Benbo EXTRA's"
and i am going to pitch them this week to that magazine, and see what comes out of it.

one thing i can tell you,
the production of the benbo extra's is more difficult than the on-going series,
why i don't know, probably because i'm restricted in a sertain ammount of space, and i can make the regular series as long and filled with detail as i want in one chapter.

Though i hope the magazine will pick it up.

Almost forgot about this...

Almost forgot to mention this in the Blog,

durring the "Stripdagen" gorinchem 2013,
i got visited by 2 dudes on the last day of the CON,
telling me they were from the J-pop foundation

and wanted to buy my book, to let it run at the 'Dutch Manga Awards'
i was all to glad to sell it to them.

Time go's by, meanwhile i got my book placed on the shelves at my local comicbook store..

two days ago (23april) When a friend Apped my with the question 'what's the word on the award ceremony?' i told her, 'dunno, i'll mail them in to morning'.

after saying that, i directly got a mail.. Telling me, i got through the first round. and was invited to come to the awards on 31 May 2013..

How about them beans.


Don't know about you guys.. but i can't wait for it.

With chapter I nearing the end and the second coming right after,
i whipped up this poster just for that occasion. 

i'm placing it on my facebook and twitter acounts to get even more attention to new readers, hoping to get a few more of them after last weekend at the comic con in gorinchem.

The SGTBENBO banner got it's fair share of attention, i mean, the thing almost reached the ceiling, so you could see it across the room... which is cool!

Good news!

Moon-Toons and SGT BENBO

will be attending the 'comicon' de stripdagen in Gorinchem on the 9th and 10th of march. it will be our first official convention and we are stoked about it.

The first printing of the graphic novel "Follow The Norm" will be on sale there with a few boomerang cards aswell..

Hopefully when the first chapter of SGT BENBO is online that first chapter will be in print form aswell and for sale online and at conventions aswell.

The ending of the second chapter is in sight, so where bussy hard at work 

hope to see you guys in Gorinchem, for you who can make it.
